An HKS loader makes a handy accessory for your desk-drawer defense revolver.

In the world of instant gratification we live in there is that never-ending quest for the need for speed. Wife Heidi’s uncle, Chuck Lyford, was a P51 Mustang driver at Reno as well other intense places around the planet.  Her mother, Ms. Ginny, was into racing real-deal speed boats and the gene carried over to my bride in the form of her being first in her class at Bondurant’s. Speed also has its quirks, as uncle Chuck and Ms. Ginny have also attended many funerals for their friends who partook of the same sports. I also clearly remember bumper stickers reading “Speed Kills.”

  Speed Is Good?

Speed — I don’t know. Expedited delivery — maybe? Here we may have something of value. Ronin Coleman’s excellent P.A.C.T. timers resolve the issue of who accomplished their shooting task first in the game of games. Games are important to many and you should always work or play at what makes you happy. But keep in mind I’ve never seen a stopwatch in a gunfight fight.

There was a time when legends like Jim Cirillo were made, and guns and gunfights were resolved by steel guns having cylinders. Leather was made into loop carriers and dump pouches so spare ammunition was carried — just in case the five or six rounds did not resolve the issue at hand. Leather is a good concept, but requires attentive users to clean and confirm the absence of the green verdigris crud that builds up in the leather pouches and loops. And in all candor, these fumble-fingered leather devices were slow in application, especially in the dark and with an elevated heart rate. In reality even the best of legends and warriors can use some help on occasion, and so — then there were speed loaders.
