Ed Brown Products Introduces Evolution Series of Custom Pistols
Ed Brown Product’s new KC9 is a beauty.
I’ll let you absorb all the good info in the press release (below), including the $1,895 MSRP, but I also want you to hear from John May, sales and marketing director for this legendary 1911 maker. In fact, my highly technical interview of John consisted of the following questions:

2. What are your thoughts after carrying it and firing it

“What’s cool? The collaborative nature of its development and how every small detail evolved to become this pistol. Also, traits such as the cocking serrations I find to be quite appealing and the 7 top slide profile give it a really hot look. Overall it is a nice looking piece and is going to be huge. And how about that price?”
“It is very nice to shoot. The weight and the balance make it almost feel that you are cheating when you shoot it. It is so thin to me it may become my daily carry pistol and replace some of the pistols that are currently in that position.”
“As for the grips, we worked those out with our grip maker. They struck me the first time I saw the concept and we have been carrying them all year. But this is the first pistol that seemed like the perfect home for them. The reddish brown are Cocobolo and the black are phenolic resin and are near indestructible. We offer them for both the Ed Brown Bobtail® and standard Government.”

PERRY, MO – Ed Brown Products, Inc. is proud to release the KC9 as the first new model in the Evolution Series of pistols.
Nearly 20 years ago the Kobra Carry took the industry by storm giving the world the first look at the Ed Brown Bobtail®, which later became the most widely copied option on the 1911. The combination of Snakeskin treatment and the Ed Brown Bobtail® are now legendary and are fully incorporated into the KC9, the first model in the Evolution Series. Completely optimized for 9mm, the KC9 is smaller, thinner, and lighter than its predecessor. The new pistol retains the comfortable and proven 1911 controls, so there are no new muscle memories to develop. The KC9 retains the standard 1911 grips, provided they are cut for the Ed Brown Bobtail®, which are now available virtually everywhere, and ships with the Ed Brown Exclusive Labyrinth Grips to make for a great looking package. Some parts were completely re-designed to take advantage of modern improvements such as the new external extractor, easy-to-change front sight, smaller ledge-style rear sight, bull barrel, and a flat wire recoil spring system. The re-engineered slide has been shortened to 4″, thinned substantially for weight reduction, and includes a unique 7-top custom cut, with special front and rear serrations. A recessed slide stop completes the package, making for the perfect custom 9mm 1911 carry gun.
Like all other Ed Brown 1911’s, the KC9 is hand-built from fully machined components, loaded with custom features, and backed by a written Lifetime Warranty. What is also unique is the ground-breaking price. These pistols will be built in small, custom, identical batches, utilizing all latest in machining equipment and techniques to get every last bit of efficiency from the build process. The result is an MSRP of $1895, which is a 30% savings as compared to a one-off custom built to order.
