Sarsilmaz SAR 7/24 Compact
Sarsilmaz was founded in Turkey way back in 1880, so they’re certainly no Johnny-come-lately. I’ve spent time with several of their guns, and I’ve been impressed with the designs, engineering and overall build quality. The SAR 7/24 C is no exception.
This compact 9mm has a 4-inch barrel, optics-ready slide, bold sights, accessory rail and excellent ergonomics.
You also get a 17-round magazine and a DA/SA trigger system that’s particularly good. The double-action pull is remarkably smooth — more like a nice double-action revolver than some of the crunchy semi-auto triggers I’ve encountered. Single-action on this particular pistol measured around 2.5 pounds on my gauge.
What really strikes me about the SAR 7/24 C, though, is its versatility.
I’d call this a do-everything pistol. If you wanted one handgun for the field, carry, weekend competition, plinking or even a little small-game hunting, this could fill all those roles. It’s also remarkably accurate. When I’m not goofing around for the camera, I’d expect roughly 1-inch groups at the 13-yard distance we were shooting.
MSRP is around $950, give or take, although we all know a little shopping around never hurts.
If you’re building a handgun collection, the SAR 7/24 C could make a pretty darn good benchmark. Start here, then add more specialized guns later.
This one can handle a little bit of everything.
