Give Your Tired 1911 an Upgrade
About a million years ago, I met two gentlemen at SHOT Show who handed me a rather unusual-looking 1911 hammer. It had a peculiar cut in the front, and naturally, I asked, “What the heck is this?”
That was my introduction to Cammer Technologies.
Their redesigned hammer face uses leverage to make cocking the hammer noticeably easier. I covered the company several times over the years in American Handgunner, and now my friend JC has taken over the operation and ramped things up.
Cammer offers complete 1911 kits with the hammer, sear, disconnector, springs, strut, plunger and other bits you need. The real trick, of course, is that the hammer incorporates their original Cammer design.
I’ve probably installed 20 of these kits over the years, and in my experience, they’ve been remarkably straightforward. The end result has consistently been a sharp, clean, crisp trigger that can change the whole character of a 1911.
Complete kits run roughly $205 to $225, while hammer-and-sear kits are around $145 to $165. You can also buy individual components if that’s all you need.
Most importantly, these are quality parts made by a respected manufacturer. In my experience, the components are a step above what you’ll find in many factory pistols, short of getting into high-end custom 1911 territory.
