You’ve heard of shooting buddies getting together after a day at the range to clean guns while watching a favorite action movie? It’s a nifty idea, yep, but it sort of means cleaning guns has been relegated to a boring or mindless activity — necessary but not actually fun. I’m not against having a good time with friends during a gun care and maintenance session, but I’m going to argue for a more engaged mindset. So here’s a challenge for you and your friends: Take a look at the cleaning and lube products you use on your guns and see if you can rehearse the products’ advantages and disadvantages as well as how well you’re following the manufacturer’s instructions on caring for your gun. It won’t take long to do this and you’ll be all the better for it.
Also, consider the advantages of products such as Breakthrough Clean’s Military Grade Solvent. A 2 oz. spray bottle retails for $8.95 and safely cleans your gun with no staining, no carcinogens, and no hazardous waste materials. The solvent of course removes fouling but also evaporates completely with no leftover residue. Oops, sprayed it on your gun’s custom-printed finish, its wood stocks, or the polymer/plastic? No problem — totally safe. Then, follow up the cleaning with Breakthrough’s Battle Born High-Purity Oil. This 2 oz. dropper bottle also retails for $8.95 and features a blend of synthetic oils treated with corrosion inhibitors, anti-oxidants, anti-foam and anti-wear additives. Safe for all metal and polymers/plastics, Battle Born lubes and protects from -90 degrees F to 417 degrees F, which covers conditions just about everywhere. Also, it’s non-flammable, non-toxic, low-odor and non-staining. Warning: You’ll end up passing these around to your friends for their guns and probably won’t even get to the movie.
