SIG Sauer Ammo

SIG SAUER — one of the most respected names in firearms — has been manufacturing a line of ammunition. Yep, you can fire SIG SAUER ammo out of any firearm. No, a SIG SAUER firearm using SIG SAUER ammunition isn’t necessarily a tactically superior combination although some ballistic testing may of course prove that out. One of my preferred combinations includes SIG SAUER’s .38 Special ammo in a 5-shot snubbie. I’ll practice with SIG SAUER’s .38 Special target loads: the 125-gr. FMJ bullet hits 900 FPS at the muzzle, producing 225 ft.-lbs. of energy. These rounds are exactly what you’d expect in a factory load: clean, consistent, and reliable. In a lightweight revolver, you’ll enjoy a moderate snap and combat effective accuracy. When it’s time to load a true defensive round, I’ll drop in five of SIG SAUER’s .38 Special +P V-Crown cartridges: the 125-gr. JHP bullet hits 965 FPS at the muzzle, producing 258 ft.-lbs. of energy. On paper it may not seem like much of a jump in velocity and energy, but in hand you’ll notice a clear difference. The moderate snap gains a bit of punch, but, depending on factors including gun weight, stock design, etc., remains very manageable. If you’ve fired a .357 Magnum in a lightweight snubbie and found it a bit much, you’ll appreciate SIG SAUER’s V-Crown +P load. V-Crown features a stacked hollow point bullet design with additional hollow point cavity and a unique toothed cannelure which ensures maximum weight retention and terminal expansion. V-Crown ammo is available in .380 Auto, .38 Special, 9mm, .38 Super +P, .357 SIG, .357 Magnum, .40 S&W, 10mm, .44 Special, .44 Magnum, .45 Auto, and .45 Colt.
