If you can’t see what you’re doing, you grab a light. Problem is, what you’re doing might require two hands. Then what? Prop light on shelf. Hold light in mouth. There’s a better way to do this, friends. Made by PowerTech, Inc., and bearing the Smith & Wesson brand, this Solstar Smart Light takes head lamps from handy-but-somewhat-nerdy to very-handy-and-downright-awesome. Wrap the comfortable elastic band around and over your head and you’ll have a powerful and versatile light at your disposal. The light can point straight ahead or pivot down almost 45 degrees. Made of an impact resistant body, it feels durable. And it truly is smart. Using a hands-free Distance Seeking Sensor, the Solstar Smart Light knows when you need a brighter light for seeing far off and a dimmer light for seeing things up close.
A 185 Lumen CREE LED provides a bright white light (reducing to 20 Lumens when in dim mode) and two red Nichia LEDs provide a night vision option. Each operates via a dedicated button on the top of the unit — click the left button to control the red lights, click the right button to control the white. Don’t need it to auto-dim at close range? Then turn that feature off with one additional click. Out in the heat or in the water? No problem. The Solstar Smart Light can take extreme heat or wet. Powered by easy-to-find-at-any-store AAA batteries, the Smart Light retails for $59.99. This nerd has found himself wearing it while working at the gun bench where other tactical lights, while very bright, are just too bright for this kind of work. Plus it’s great to have both hands available instead of having to hold a light with one. Tactical lights never taste good, either. For more info, www.americanhandgunner.com/index; (866) 258-9090
