Volquartsen Black Mamba
at 100 Yards
With a Rifle Scope
I’ve been having a lot of fun finding out just how far I can push this Volquartsen Black Mamba .22 pistol
First, I shot it at 100 yards with iron sights and managed about a 3-inch group. Then, I mounted a red dot and moved to 75 yards because the dot covered too much of the target at 100. This time, I mounted a Skinner Sights rifle scope, moved the target back to 100 yards, and, well, I think the results might surprise you.
The Black Mamba is a serious target pistol with Volquartsen’s Competition Bolt, proprietary firing pin and extractor, and plenty of other goodies. Mine also seems to really like SK Match ammunition, so that’s what I used for this test.
Yes, I’m using a rifle scope on a pistol, which means getting my eye pretty close. On a hard-recoiling handgun, I wouldn’t recommend that arrangement, but on a .22 it works just fine.
During some preliminary shooting, I was getting groups around 1.25 to 1.5 inches at 100 yards. The wind was blowing, though, and .22s are remarkably susceptible to even a little breeze.
When I came back on a dead-still day, five shots went into 1 inch at 100 yards.
I don’t know about you, but I’ll take that from a .22 pistol any day.
We’ve done iron sights, a red dot and now a scope. What’s next? I’ve got some little buckets reminiscent of Quigley Down Under. I think we’ll put one at 100 yards and see if I can make a Quigley shot.
Stay tuned.
