Black Hills HoneyBadger .32 ACP
A Pleasant Surprise
I’ve been a Black Hills Ammunition fan for years, and their HoneyBadger loads often find their way into my carry guns. So, when I heard they were making a 50-grain HoneyBadger in .32 ACP, I couldn’t resist. A few boxes later, I was at the range with my trusty Walther PP.
I’ve always liked the little .32. Sure, it doesn’t get much respect these days, but in a trim pistol like the Walther, it’s downright handy. Easy to carry, fun to shoot and a whole lot better than harsh language if things go sideways.
First stop was the chronograph. The first shot clocked 1,020 fps, followed by 1,041 fps. Well, how about that? That’s pretty darn zippy for a .32! Only two shots, mind you, but enough to get my attention.
Moving back to about 10 yards, I fired a handful of rounds, starting double-action. The old Walther behaved itself, the ammo shot nicely, and I came away smiling. No fancy accuracy testing here, just some honest shooting to see what was what.
The HoneyBadger’s trick is its fluted bullet. Instead of depending on hollow-point expansion, those grooves are designed to redirect material as the bullet travels through its target. Clever stuff, although I’d want to see proper gelatin testing before making any grand claims.
So, what’s the verdict? Good velocity, encouraging accuracy and no complaints from the Walther during this short outing. Not bad for a cartridge some folks wrote off years ago.
I’ve always believed the little .32 deserves more credit than it gets. With ammunition like this from Black Hills, maybe it’ll finally get a little more attention. And besides, any excuse to take the old Walther out for some exercise is a good one in my book.
