Cold Blue That Looks Like the Real Thing
Brownells Oxpho-Blue Cream
Here’s an update on a past project — a .32 H&R Magnum built on an old, well-worn J-Frame using a parts kit and a lot of elbow grease. The mechanical work was already finished, but the final step was one I’ll admit I approached with skepticism: cold bluing.
I used Brownells Oxpho-Blue Cream, and the results honestly stopped me in my tracks. This isn’t hot blue. It’s cold blue — and yet the finish is deep, even, and clean enough that seasoned gun folks assumed the revolver had been professionally reblued.
The end result is proof that cold blue doesn’t have to look cheap or patchy. With careful prep and the right product, it can look outstanding — even on a custom revolver build.
