Master Pistolsmithing Jim Clark Sr.

[…] highly regarded than Clark’s. Another idea came when he bought (for 10 cents each) hundreds of 1911 slides the military had cut in two and sold as surplus. What do you do with hundreds of half-slides? Jim Clark used the parts to make his famous “long slides” which many competitors came to prefer for their long sight radius. His many innovations were not limited to bullseye competition. When action/practical shooting competition took off in the 1970s, the Clark “Pinmaster” was developed for the popular Second Chance match. John Shaw used a Clark Pin Gun to win the US IPSC (in the pre-USPSA era) in 1980 and again in 1981. >> Click Here AHJA11col July/August 2011

Biometric Micro Vault

[…] and just the stuff you might need when the bump in the night happens. A 5″ 1911 fits and still leaves a bit of room for a light and a spare magazine but a 6″ Colt Python didn’t fit, just so you know. MSRP is about $220 or so. Springfied Armory’s Range Officer

[…] match pistols costing three and four times as much. The base gun is a classic, full-size 1911-A1 .45 ACP with 5″ barrel. There’s a ramped, serrated-post front sight. The fully adjustable rear sight, made by Springfield, is virtually identical to the (no longer made) Bo-Mar BMCS. The sight is low-mounted in a dovetail cut for the classic “buried” look. There’s a beavertail grip safety, extended manual safety and long trigger. The flat-mainspring housing is checkered. The Range Officer has match grade, stainless steel barrel and bushing. It uses the “original” recoil spring guide, magazine release and slide stop. Otherwise, the pistol is notable for what it doesn’t have. There are no front cocking serrations, no magazine loading chute, no frontstrap or triggerguard checkering, ambidextrous safety or fancy 2-tone finish. >> Click Here AHND11col2 November/December 2011

The SIG Sauer 210

[…] riding corresponding inward-facing rails on the frame. This reverses the relationship of these elements on the 1911 and other Browning arms. The slide and frame contact is significantly greater than is usual on Browning designs, and the overall arrangement is widely considered as an important contributor to the accuracy of most examples of the 210. >> Click Here AHMJ12col May/June 2012

“Factory” Low Recoil .45 ACP Loads?

[…] with factory low recoil .45 ACP loads, which would reliably function in a standard 1911 or Commander — without replacing the recoil spring? To this end I contacted Tim Sundles at Buffalo Bore and Mike McNett at DoubleTap. Both men agreed to see what they would come up with, although they were skeptical about the possible results. Both men also went the extra mile, and I thank them both for their willingness to work with us. By John Taffin >> Click Here AHND12col Handgunner Nov/Dec 2012 Cover

Handgun Esthetics

[…] Nothing to indicate which of them might even be a good shot. Well, some carry 1911s nowdays and I’ll bet some of those are gussied-up a bit. Usually a cop with a 1911 in his holster is a gunnie. As far as handgun esthetics goes, I’m glad I grew up in a bygone era. By Mike “Duke” Venturino >> Click Here AHMJ13_col AH MK 2013
