6” Korth Mongoose at 50 Yards
I’ve covered my Korth Mongoose from Nighthawk Custom pretty extensively before, so this time we’re skipping most of the talk and getting right to the shooting.
A few people asked me to put some full-power .357 Magnum through it, and I thought that sounded like a perfectly good idea. I grabbed some Hornady Critical Defense loaded with a 125-grain bullet. Out of this six-inch Korth, I chronographed it at right around 1,500 fps. But just shooting it wasn’t enough. I set the target at 50 yards.
I normally shoot revolvers double action, but I’ve found I can squeeze just a little more accuracy out of this gun at longer distances by shooting single action. With my eyes and ears on — and a little aperture aid to help my 72-year-old eyes focus — I fired a five-shot group.
The result? Right around 2 inches at 50 yards. Not bad, especially considering I wasn’t exactly taking my sweet time between shots.
For comparison, I also warmed up with Black Hills 148-grain target wadcutters. Five shots measured about 1 3/8 inches, with four of those clustering into roughly 1 1/8 inches. From my previous shooting, I know this revolver can flirt with 1-inch groups at 50 yards with the right ammunition.
Next stop? I think we need to try 100 yards. You know, for educational purposes.
