Why the Masada Tactical Stands Out
162

The Masada Tactical is a top-end, full-sized service pistol with all the bells and whistles at a substantially
lower price than the other guys.

The Israel Weapon Industries Masada Tactical is a state-of-the-art service pistol with all the bells and whistles. There’s really nothing you could want in a home defense or service handgun that the Masada Tactical does not offer in spades. It also comes in easily at a C-note less than its competition. The Masada is a military-grade tactical handgun contrived for use in places where defensive firearms are tools rather than for recreation.

The high-strength, fiber-reinforced polymer frame ensures long life and light weight. Its ergonomic design keeps the bore low for easy recoil management and fast follow-up shots. The 6-pound striker-fired trigger system is reliable, accurate, comfortable and safe. The magazine catch and slide release are mirrored identically on both sides. The end result is as fine a defensive handgun as is available anywhere at any price.

Need Versus Want

Let there be truth between us. You need a decent service handgun. It’s not that we live in a war zone. We don’t. Statistically, the vast majority of us will succumb to the ravages of old age peacefully in a bed someplace. We don’t need a tactical pistol because we actually expect to use it to protect ourselves and our families. We all need to own one because this is America, and we can.

Just like a muscle, freedom that isn’t exercised invariably atrophies. If you look around the world, draconian government overreach is the norm. U.S.-grade firearms freedom is a gleaming exception on the world stage. Our political opponents absolutely despise us for that by the way.

A tricked-out Masada tactical would be right at home in the hands of a big-screen spy.
It also makes for the ideal home defense tool in the real world.

The United Nations recognizes 195 distinct countries around the world. Of those, only four — Guatemala, Haiti, Mexico and the United States — have the right to bear arms enshrined in their foundational documents. Of those four, Mexico ignores it, and Haiti is a perennial hellhole. The point is that our Second Amendment rights are both precious and fragile.

A responsible, well-armed populace is the best hedge against tyranny and despotism. There is a reason our democracy has endured so much longer than others on this big blue marble. The Masada Tactical is the perfect tool to help keep your family safe and America free.

The Masada Tactical is the complete package. It comes with three backstraps, two magazines, a threaded barrel,
suppressor-height sights, and four different optics mounting plates, all in one box.

Details

The Masada Tactical differs from the more pedestrian sort in that it comes with an extended, threaded barrel and suppressor-height sights. The slide is cut to accept Trijicon RMR, Vortex Venom, Leupold Delta Point Pro and SIG Romeo1 optics seamlessly. All the necessary adapter plates and screws come standard with the gun.

The pistol orbits around a removable modular serialized fire control assembly that is easily maintained. Three interchangeable backstraps allow the operator to optimize the gun for individual hand sizes. The weapon is available in black, OD green and Flat Dark Earth (FDE).

The Masada Tactical (top) is the natural progression of the original Masada combat pistol, itself a superlative design.

The grip is comfortably stippled for reliable purchase, and the dust cover naturally comes with a length of Picatinny rail for accessories. The primary safety is a blade built into the trigger face. The slide sports deep gripping grooves both front and rear. The gun feeds from a rugged 17-round steel magazine and comes with two. The threaded barrel on the Masada Tactical is 4.6 inches long, and the gun weighs 23 ounces, empty and bereft of cool-guy stuff.

The controls are mirrored on both sides of the gun.

We outfitted our test gun with a Trijicon RMR HD red dot sight, Streamlight TLR-8G combination white light and green laser, and a SilencerCo Spectre 9 titanium sound suppressor. Thusly configured, the Masada Tactical is the perfect tool for either covert tactical missions of daring and intrigue or, more likely, just basic home defense.

The Trijicon RMR HD represents the state of the art in ruggedized pistol optics.

Tactical Talk

The tricked-out Masada Tactical will walk and talk on the range. Fully outfitted with the light, sight and can, the gun is both placid and controllable. Of course, it was reliable with everything we fed it right out of the box. That includes 100-grain Black Hills solid copper HoneyBadger rounds up through heavy 147-grain defensive hollow points. This is, after all, an Israeli design.

The lightweight all-titanium SilencerCo Spectre 9 offers superlative suppression with
a minimal penalty in weight and bulk.

The Streamlight TLR-8G is not much bigger than my thumb, yet it produces a bright green laser spot
and plenty of brilliant white light.

Guys, this gun was unbelievably accurate. Firing from a sandbag rest, it consistently shot through the same jagged hole at 12 meters. I do this for a living, and the performance of the Masada Tactical legit knocked my socks off.

The sundry accessories were a seamless fit. The Masada Tactical is ideal for use in your home or automobile. It runs fast, shoots straight and hits hard.

The Masada Tactical performed unbelievably well on the range. So long as I did my part, this was pretty typical off
of a sandbag rest at 12 meters.

Whether you are a secret agent undertaking missions of daring and intrigue or just some dude who wants to keep
his family safe in a world gone nuts, the Masada Tactical is truly optimized iron.

Ruminations

Outfitting the Masada with all the cool-guy stuff indeed makes your typical American Joe Sixpack look just a bit like an MI6 agent. However, there is a method to this madness. Thusly configured, the gun will reliably secure your home both day and night. Should you ever be called upon to use the weapon for real, the SilencerCo Spectre 9 will also help preserve your hearing and situational awareness. That becomes a big deal when you are under pressure and might need to communicate with terrified family members or members of law enforcement.

I saved the best for last. The IWI Masada Tactical offers everything you expect from a top-end, name-brand combat handgun from a reputable manufacturer. It also shoots like a freaking laser while sporting an MSRP of only $480. A quick perusal of GunBroker.com showed the gun offered between $393 and $449. That’s a whole lot of awesome for the money.
