Springfield Armory’s XD(M) 10mm Series

The R&D folks at Springfield Armory have been busier than Santa’s elves in mid-December. Both are cranking out toys for all of us good boys and girls. I wouldn’t mind finding one of these new blasters under my tree this Christmas. As Ralphie would say, “Nothing says Merry Christmas better than getting a new gun!”

Torture Tested Tough

Not wanting their highly anticipated polymer pistol to end up on the Island of Misfit Toys, Springfield Armory (SA) torture tested these guns with 10,000 rounds of Federal Premium Hydra-Shok 10mm ammo without a single failure! Each and every round was documented on film. After 2,000 rounds, the guns were lubed and recoil springs changed, per factory recommendation.

Built to be robust and rugged, the XD(M) performed flawlessly, scoffing at the torture test, as if requesting, “Thank you sir, may I have another?”

Tell Me More

The SA XD(M) is a full-sized, polymer-framed, striker-fired pistol chambered for the 10mm cartridge. The guns are available with either a 4.5 or 5.25″ barrel. The polymer frame features Mega-lock texturing on the grip and three interchangeable backstraps options, allowing for a custom fit and trigger reach. The frame also has an accessory rail for light/laser attachment. The trigger has a shorter travel and reset allowing for faster and more accurate shooting. Magazine capacity is a whopping 15+1 of 10mm “meteorific” cartridges! Holy cow! Ambidextrous magazine releases are standard.

The Upper Deck

The slide is made of forged steel for extra strength and has a Melonite finish. Stylish serrations allow positive grip during slide manipulation and press-check. A white-dot, low profile combat rear sight assures a smooth, snag-free draw and complements the high visibility fiber optic front sight for low-light conditions.

The match-grade barrel is precision manufactured, hammer-forged 1:16″ right-hand twist. Combined with a full-length guide rod, recoil is lessoned for a steady diet of full-power 10mm ammo.

Safe? You Bet!

Safeties include a grip safety and ultra safety assurance (USA) action trigger system. There is also a striker status indicator, allowing the operator to see and feel the striker status. A loaded chamber indicator allows for visual and tactile chamber status.

Length is 7.7″, height is 5.75″ and grip-width is 1.2″. Weight is 31.2 oz.
MSRP is $652 for the 4.5″ and $779 for the 5.25″ model.
